White flaky crystals. Highly soluble in water, lower alcohols, glycerol, and N,N-dimethylformamide; partially soluble in acetone and ethyl acetate; slightly soluble in carbon tetrachloride, diethyl ether, and chloroform; and insoluble in aliphatic hydrocarbons, aromatic hydrocarbons, and chlorinated hydrocarbons. Its hygroscopicity is approximately 50% that of glycerol.
